Introduction to Tourism Management

Training objectives: this major aims to cultivate innovative application talents who meet the needs of the development of modern tourism, adhere to the Tan Kah-Kee Spirit and "sincerity" character, and have humanistic quality, international vision, innovation consciousness, entrepreneurial spirit and sense of social responsibility. Their knowledge, ability and quality develop harmoniously, and they are competent for operation, management, planning, consulting and service in tourism industry, institutions and government departments.

Training requirements:

1. Knowledge structure requirements

(1) Instrumental knowledge: to understand and master the instrumental knowledge necessary for tourism operation, management, planning, consultation and service, including basic knowledge of mathematics, logical thinking, computer, information science foundation and application, foreign language and so on.

(2) Natural science knowledge: to understand and master the basic knowledge of natural science necessary for tourism operation, management, planning, consultation and service.

(3) Humanities and social sciences knowledge: to understand and master the humanities and social sciences knowledge necessary for tourism operation, management, planning, consulting and service, including the basic principles of Marxism, Mao Zedong thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of "Three Represents", as well as the basic knowledge of literature, history, philosophy, art, law and so on.

(4) Basic knowledge of Discipline: to understand and master the basic knowledge of discipline about tourism operation, management, planning, consulting and service, including management, economics, accounting, management information system, marketing, service etiquette, cross-cultural communication, e-commerce and other basic knowledge.

(5) Professional knowledge: to understand and master the professional knowledge about tourism operation, management, planning, consulting and service, including introduction to tourism, service operation management, tourism economics, tourism psychology, tourism destination management, tourism planning and development, tourism laws and regulations, tourism safety and security, tourism human resource management, modern hotel management, travel agency management, scenic spot management, coastal resort management, catering management, club management, cruise management, yacht management and other basic knowledge, and understand the frontier and development trend of the discipline.

2. Capability structure requirements

(1) Knowledge acquisition ability:to havea strong ability to acquire professional knowledge independently, to master new theories, new knowledge, new technologies and updated knowledge.

(2) Applied knowledge ability: to have a strong ability to solve practical problems by using various knowledge and skills, like writing and language skills , team cooperation and coordination ability, social skills, computer skills and tourism research ability.

(3) Innovation and entrepreneurial ability: to have innovative thinking, innovative consciousness, innovation and entrepreneurial ability.

3. Quality structure requirements

(1) Political and ideological quality: students of this major should love the socialist motherland, support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and master the basic principles of Marxism and socialism with Chinese characteristics.They should have the qualities of love for their posts, dedication, hard work, the love of labor, discipline and law-abiding, unity and cooperation. They should uphold the school motto of "honesty and determination" , and have good ideological and moral characters, social morals , professional ethics and humanistic quality.

(2) Scientific and cultural quality: students of this major should have correct outlook on life and values, have a good appreciation level in humanities and art , and have realistic and pragmatic scientific quality.

(3) Professional quality: to haveprofessional skillsin tourism management to produce graduates who can perform in hotel,marine,and other tourism and events industry.

(4) Physical and psychological quality:to havea certainbasic knowledge of sports and military, mastering the basic skills of scientific physical exercise, developing good living and healthy habits, and having good mental and physical condition.

Core courses: Principles of Management, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Principles of Accounting, Financial Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Introduction to Tourism, Service Operation Management, Tourism Economics, Tourism Laws and Regulations, Tourism Psychology, Tourism Destination Management, Tourism Planning and Development, Tourism English, etc.
